Just a few weeks after raising close to $5.3 million in funding; popular tech-powered bike start-up , Gokada has finally partnered with Lagos Boats to launch GBoat, its water transportation platform. GBoat which launched on 13th June, 2019 will be operating on weekdays in the Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Lekki axis of Lagos for now.
This development is very exciting because it helps to reduce the traffic problem in Lagos by creating an alternative transportation route by water. With Lagos residents spending an average of 7 hours 20 minutes daily in traffic according to a recent study carried out by Planet Projects, a lot of people will be quick to accept this solution.
According to a post on Gokada’s Twitter page, their boat rides last approximately 10 -15 minutes; which is way shorter than the time spent commuting via roads. There is no doubt as to the viability of this service because the landmass of Lagos consists of more than 20% water.
Through their website, riders can select their routes, reserve seats and also book their rides. We hope that with time, GBoat services extends to other parts of Lagos.
